The Running Horse pub dates back to the year 1403 and was built on land belonging to the church. It was originally known as Rummings House, after the infamous Eleynor Rumminge, who was written about by King Henry VIII's poet John Skelton. This poem can be read on a wall in the pub. Historic legends claim that King Henry VIII's daughter Queen Elizabeth I, spent a night at the country inn due to floods making the River Mole impossible to cross. It is rumoured that this country pub in Surrey was a meeting place for 17th century smugglers. This traditional Surrey public house has provided hospitality for more than 600 years.
